DPNvideo software not working

Postby Giuseppe_Arrabito » Tue Jul 20, 2010 3:06 am

Hi everyone,

I've recently started to use Dip Pen Nanopatterning. I'm using NSCRIPTOR™ System with INKCAD software (version 3.4). I'm actually making some training for getting the grip with the methodology.
I've got a problem as concerns the DPNvideo software. I would like to execute the aligment procedure as stated in the User Manual but the DPNvideo is blocked. When I point on the monitor dedicated for the DPNvideo (one monitor is for using the computer programs another one for the DPNvideo), there is no mouse pointer but a hourglass appears. In fact, on the task manager panel, DPNvideo software appeares as "not responding". In this way,I cannot make the alignment procedure, because it is impossible to capture the image through the software tool.

Can someone give me some advises/ideas for solving this problem?

Would one solution be software upgrading?

Best regards,

Giuseppe Arrabito

Hi Giuseppe,
there may be multiple reasons why DPN video is not working:
1) If you cannot get any images from the camera in either DPNvideo or other imaging software (e.g. Windows MovieMaker), the problem could be with the camera hardware or cable physical connections. You'll need to check if all the cables between the Conbtroller, Nscroptor stage, and PC are connected tightly.
2) If you can see a live image in MovieMaker, but nothing in DPNvideo, you might have a video driver that is incompatible with InkCAD. You'll need to reinstall the video driver.
3) If you can see some signal in DPNvideo window, but it is not responding properly, you might have some problems with InkCAD/video driver configuration. Besides, some other software installed on your PC might interfere with DPNvideo module. Uninstall all recenlty installed third-party software.

Hi Giuseppe,
as we figured out together during a remote support session last week, the problem was caused by a virus in your PC that interfered with DPNvideo driver. After we removed the virus, the DPNvideo started working properly.
As a general rule, if your Nscriptor PC is constantly connected to Internet, you must always use an antivirus software. Unfortunately, you cannot use just any antivirus. We found that some antiviruses can interfere with InkCAD-controller communication, which results in often InkCAD crashing or system freezing. We recommend using AVG Free antivirus, which we extensively tested for compatibility with InkCAD. You can download it for free from Internet.
Best,
Igor
